Two Peoples Bay

Only 35km east of Albany, the reserve is perhaps most important for being home to the critically endangered Gilbert’s potoroo and the endangered noisy scrub-bird, both of which were presumed extinct until being rediscovered at Two Peoples Bay.

An excellent visitor centre at Two Peoples Bay has lots of information about local history, wildlife and important recovery programs for threatened species. Over summer months, the centre is usually open from 10:00am-4:00pm. During other months the centre is open when staff are present, however when closed the colourful displays can still be viewed from outside. A picnic area and gas barbecues are nearby. No camping and no drinking water available in the reserve.

Explore Two Peoples Bay

One of the best ways to enjoy the scenic beauty and wildlife of Two Peoples bay is to walk along the Heritage Trail. The walk starts at the rear of the visitor centre and winds through peppermint woodland then loops back along the beach (Distance 4.6km, allow 2 hours return, Class 4 Moderately difficult). Stand or sit quietly on the trail and you may hear the territorial song of a male noisy scrub-bird, especially during their mating season (May-September). Lookouts on the trail provide views across the sheltered bay. A 5km return spur from this loop leads to picturesque Little Beach. Allow 4 hours. Class 3 Moderately easy.

Alternatively you can drive from the visitor centre to Little Beach. Those with four-wheel drive vehicles can also set out on Sinker Reef Track to Sinker Reef Beach to enjoy magnificent coastal views.
